Senior golf coaching

Senior golf coaching for the turn you have now

Keep your distance with sequence, width and mobility — not effort. A coach that adjusts every drill to your body, your speed and the way you actually swing.

The senior coaching philosophy

Distance you lose with age is mostly a turn and a sequencing problem, not a strength problem — so senior coaching here trades depth for width and teaches pressure to keep moving forward. You don't need to turn like you did at 30; you need the turn you have now to fire in the right order.

Switch the coach into Senior Golfer mode and every answer respects it: freer lower-body moves, step drills, mobility work before sessions, and equipment advice built for swing speed you actually have.

The senior drill set

  • Step-Change Drill (sequencing without a big turn)

Feet together, then step into the lead foot as the downswing starts. 3 sets of 8 with a 7-iron. Cue: pressure moves before the hands do. Target: centred strikes on 6 of 8 without losing balance.

  • Shoulder Stick Drill (turn instead of sway)

Hold a club across your shoulders, turn back and through over a stable trail leg. 2 sets of 10, then 10 balls. Cue: the sternum points at the ball at impact. Fixes the sway that costs seniors both distance and strike.

  • Senior Mobility Warm-Up (turn freely again)

Five minutes before every session: hip circles, standing torso turns with arms crossed, leg swings front-to-back and side-to-side, then 10 slow half-swings. Cue: warm the turn before you ask it for speed.

  • Finish and Freeze (balance to the target)

20 shots, hold the finish until the ball lands. Cue: belt buckle at the target, trail toe down, weight fully on the lead foot. Fixes the fall-back that turns solid contact into thin shots.

Small changes, real distance

  • Let the lead heel lift on the backswing — freedom in the hips beats a locked lower body.
  • Width beats depth: a shorter, wider arc with full extension often out-carries a deep turn.
  • Lighter shafts and more loft in the long clubs; the coach matches advice to your speed.
  • Play the correct tees and let strategy — not ego — take strokes off the card.

Questions golfers ask

How can senior golfers keep their distance?

Sequence and contact, not effort. The Step-Change and Shoulder Stick drills restore pressure moving forward and a turn through the ball — most senior golfers find the metres they thought were gone were hiding behind a sway and a late hit.

I have a bad back / sore shoulder — can you still help?

The coach works within the restrictions you tell it about, favouring mobility warm-ups and swing shapes that ask less of the sore area. Coaching here is educational only and never a diagnosis — for pain, see a medical professional first.

Should I change my equipment as I get older?

Often, yes: lighter shafts, more loft in the fairway woods and hybrids instead of long irons. Describe your speed and current set and the coach will give specific recommendations.

How often should a senior golfer practise?

Short and frequent wins: three 30-minute sessions a week with the mobility warm-up first, plus one on-course focus like the pre-shot routine. Quality of reps beats volume at every age.
